  • Call for Local Government Resolutions

    January 23, 2019

    UBCM’s annual resolutions process provides a forum for local governments from across the province to express concerns and develop united positions. Resolutions that are endorsed by the membership at our annual Convention become policy for UBCM. Local governments are encouraged to submit resolutions for consideration by regional Area Associations a their annual meetings. Resolutions endorsed by Area Associations are submitted automatically to UBCM for consideration in September.

  • UBCM Seeks Rail Safety Committee Representative

    UBCM seeks a representative on the British Columbia Operation Lifesaver Provincial Committee. The Committee’s objective is to educate Canadians about the hazards posed by rail property and trains. Interested parties may contact Bhar Sihota, UBCM Policy Analyst, by February 8, 2019.

  • Call for Forest Policy Changes Heard

    January 16, 2019

    A notice has been issued advising that a multi-year initiative is underway to make improvements to the Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA). Initial improvements will begin in early 2019, and continue over several years. The Province has indicated that the initiative, in part, is in response to concerns raised by UBCM and other interested parties.

  • Appointments to RCMP Contract Committee

    UBCM is currently looking to appoint local government representatives from RCMP policed jurisdictions to the British Columbia Local Government Contract Management Committee (LGCMC). There are six vacancies that are required to be filled by local government elected officials or staff members.

  • Consultation on Edible Cannabis Regulations

    January 9, 2019

    Health Canada has launched a public consultation as it works to regulate edible cannabis products, as well as cannabis extracts and topicals. Under the Cannabis Act, these products will be permitted for sale by October 17, 2019. Interested local governments may submit feedback no later than February 20, 2019.
