The Ministry of Health has committed $500,000 in additional funding to the Age-Friendly Communities program. Applications will be received until November 2, 2018.

Funding for local governments will be available for two streams: Age-friendly Assessments, Action Plans & Planning; and Age-friendly projects. All local governments in BC are eligible to apply for both streams. Local governments may each submit one application.

In addition, in partnership with health authorities, a pilot program is being introduced in 2019 to offer up to five First Nations the opportunity to apply for assessment, action plan and planning grants. For the First Nations pilot program, health authorities will identify one First Nation in each region that is at a stage of readiness to apply for funding. Only the five First Nations identified by the health authorities are eligible to apply under the pilot program.

Grants have been previously awarded for projects and plans such as helping seniors to access safe food, encouraging and supporting seniors’ fitness, providing accessible books for seniors with low vision, as well as the creation of dementia-friendly action plans and age-friendly assessments.
